Growing up I was told becoming a mother was a sacred thing. Yet, it was served to me in such a limiting container that when I distanced myself from Patriarchal theology I found it difficult to see motherhood as anything else but limiting.
As I grew in my feminist understanding I came to understand motherhood IS a sacred experience. In fact, it is one of the places the Divine Feminine shows up! In this episode, Amanda a midwife and mother talks about birth, the experience of giving over her body for the life of her child in labor, and how that mirrors the cross.
Women image God in the process of birth, and it was a joy to celebrate that with Amanda!

Episode Summary: In this episode, we interview a nurse practitioner midwife on the importance of listening to all people’s stories of birth and the importance of accepting all narratives of childbearing. Highlights include Amanda’s incredible definition of what it means to be Christian, debunking the idea that birth has to be a mystical experience, how we grow to meet the experience of childbearing we have, and the potential pain or meaning-making that comes from miscarriage. She offers a space for one-on-one and group conversations on these topics as part of her practice at Unapologetic Birth. You can find out more here.
My co-host is the wonderful Rachel Alba a Christian sex coach. Check out her work here.
